Neuro-affirmingWe recognise and respect neurodivergence as a natural part of human diversity, not something to fix or normalise. Therapy goals are built around empowering families to understand neurodivergence, working with a child’s natural strengths and interests, and supporting their challenges from a place of curiosity and empathy. We help families and children build self-awareness and self-advocacy skills, and find the spaces where they feel most confident, successful and able to stay regulated and connected to the world around them.
Trauma-informedWe understand that a child’s behaviour and nervous system responses make sense in the context of their past and current experiences. We prioritise physical and emotional safety, choice, control, predictability and trust in every session, rather than compliance-based approaches. We are committed to relationship-based practice and to finding the why behind every behaviour.
Family-ledWe deeply respect that families are the experts on their children. We work in partnership with parents and carers to set priorities and to pace intervention to your capacity. We get to know what matters to you and where you need support most, and we support your family as a unit.
Strengths-basedWe start with what a child can already do and build from there, rather than focusing therapy around deficits or “fixing” perceived problems. We recognise the unique and valued strengths neurodivergent people bring to our community, and we build on them to nurture a child’s sense of self, their confidence and their belief in what they can do.
Play-basedAt Sense Therapies, our work happens through play. Our clinicians are trained and experienced in a wide range of play- and relationship-based interventions, including
Sensory Integration and
DIR Floortime. We use the natural drive children have to play to build skills in a way that is non-threatening, playful, effective and meaningful to the child.
